Mathis Mentor/Scholarship Program
Mathis Foundation for Children provides encouragement for at-risk students to focus on their education and displays patience with each student’s special needs.
The Mathis Scholarship/Mentor Program was established in 2003 to promote educational stability for youth living in substitute care who attend private schools. The Foundation advocates that stability in the educational environment will promote greater opportunity for success in each student’s future.
Scholarships are provided to at-risk youth in need of financial aid and living in substitute care. The purpose of the scholarship is to support and engage students who display and continue to demonstrate a positive attitude through attendance, mature conduct and diligent effort.
Mathis scholarships are awarded on an annual basis with the anticipation of on-going support throughout the student’s educational career. Scholarships are awarded for elementary and secondary education at one-half tuition costs. Post-secondary financial support is provided for expenses related to maintaining the student in school.
Students and caretakers participating in the Scholarship/Mentor Program agree to work with mentors while receiving scholarships and financial assistance. Mentors are specifically selected for each scholarship recipient to compliment his/her interests and needs.
Each mentor is selected for his/her desire to have a long-term relationship with a student, to respect and accept the student’s special needs and challenges, to be dedicated to the mission of the program and to participate in ongoing training and Mathis Foundation projects.
